This glossary explains the terms you see in the SermonWave Dashboard, on the Listener page and in the OBS plugin. Words in bold are labels as they appear on screen.
A#
Admin / Org Admin#
A user role. An Org Admin can change device settings, start and stop devices, pair OBS and manage users. A User can view but not change settings. See Users and roles.
Arm / Auto-start (VOX)#
A way to start translation automatically. When a device is Armed, it listens for speech and starts translating when someone speaks. In the Dashboard the buttons are Arm VOX and Disarm VOX. On a Web device the switch is called Auto-start (VOX). In OBS, the matching status is Armed — waiting for speech. See Live monitoring.
C#
Campus#
One location of a church that meets in several places. Each campus can have its own devices, and leadership can see sermon content across locations in one dashboard. See Multi-campus churches.
Captions#
The live text of the sermon, in the original language and in each translation. Listeners see captions on the Listener page. The OBS plugin can also put captions on your video. See OBS captions.
CEA-608 captions#
The standard closed-caption (CC) format used by YouTube and most streaming platforms. Viewers turn these captions on or off in the player. The OBS plugin can send them in your stream (Stream captions (CEA-608)) and in translated streams (Captions on stream). See OBS captions.
Church page#
Your church's public page on sermonwave.com, with your logo, service times, recent sermons and a Join Live button when you are live. See Your church page.
Control token#
A secret key that lets a Stream Deck, Bitfocus Companion or other tool control one device over the internet. This feature is coming soon. See Stream Deck and Companion control.
D#

The website where you set up and manage SermonWave, at dashboard.sermonwave.com. Its main sections are Home, Events, Devices, Links, Library and Manage. See Dashboard tour.

E#
Event#
One service or session as it appears under Events in the Dashboard. Each event keeps its recording, transcript, summary and translations. See Sermon archive.
F#
Floor audio / room audio#
The original sound from the room or sound board, before translation. You can send it to the Listener page so remote listeners who speak the original language can hear the live service. On an SW1 box the setting is Stream live floor audio to /listen. On a Web device or OBS it is Stream room audio to listeners. See Device settings.
L#
Library#
The Dashboard section where you search every sermon by meaning, topic, book of the Bible or date. See Sermon archive.

The Dashboard section for short links and QR codes that open your Listener page. See Share a QR code.
Listener#
A person following the service on their phone. The Dashboard shows listener counts while you are live and in Reports.
Listener page#
The web page your congregation opens on their phones (sermonwave.com/listen/...). They pick a language and read or listen. No app or account needed. See The Listener page.
Live#
A device is live when it is translating and listeners can follow along. The Dashboard and church page show LIVE NOW. On a Web device the status reads "Live — speech is being translated for listeners."
O#
OBS plugin#
A plugin for OBS Studio (Windows and Mac) that sends the pastor's mic from OBS to SermonWave and brings captions and translated audio back into OBS. It appears as the SermonWave dock. See Install the OBS plugin.
Organization#
Your church's account in SermonWave. Devices, users, events and the Listener page all belong to an organization. When you add a device you may be asked to choose its Organization. See Organization settings.
P#
Pairing code#
A short code that connects the OBS plugin to your organization. The SermonWave dock in OBS shows it (8 letters and numbers, like K7QM-4TXD). An admin enters it in the Dashboard, or scans its QR code. A code lasts 10 minutes; click Get a new code in OBS if it expires. See Pair OBS with SermonWave.
S#
Session#
One continuous run of translation, from Start to Stop. A device's Sessions list shows its past runs. See Live monitoring.
Source language#
The language the speaker is using. In device settings it is Source Language. Auto-detect lets SermonWave work it out; picking the right language improves accuracy. In the OBS plugin it is Speaking language. See Device settings.
Stream key#
The secret key your streaming platform (for example YouTube) gives you to send a live stream. The OBS plugin uses a separate stream key for each translated stream. Stream keys stay on your OBS computer and are not sent to SermonWave. See Stream a translated version.
SW1#
The SermonWave hardware box. It plugs into your sound board, power and network, and starts on its own every service. No computer needed on Sunday. See Set up your SW1.
Sync delay#
How many seconds a video is held back so each translated sentence starts when the speaker says it on screen. Translation runs a few seconds behind the speaker, like live interpretation, and the sync delay hides that gap. See Audio sync in OBS.
T#
Target language#
A language SermonWave translates into. In device settings these are the Target Languages. Listeners pick one of them on the Listener page. See Device settings.
Transcript#
The written text of a sermon, in the original language and in each translation. Find it on an event under Transcript, and on public sermon pages. See Sermon archive.

TTS / translated voice#
TTS means text-to-speech: a voice that speaks the translation aloud. Listeners turn on Audio on the Listener page to hear it. You choose which languages are spoken in device settings (TTS and Voice). Captions show for every target language either way. See Device settings.
V#
VAD (Voice Activity Detection)#
How SermonWave decides when someone is speaking. In device settings, VAD (Voice Activity Detection) has a Sensitivity slider. Raise it if background noise turns into nonsense text; lower it if a soft-spoken speaker is missed. On a Web device, the speech light "Lights up when the server hears speech." See Device settings.
W#
Web device#
A browser tab that acts as a translation device. It listens through the computer's microphone or sound board input. Add one with Add web device under Devices. Keep the tab open while you are live. See Set up a Web device.
