Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about UnityVerse and real-time sermon translation.

The Basics

What is UnityVerse?

UnityVerse is a real-time sermon translation system for churches. A small hardware device called the Unity Edge connects to your sound system and automatically transcribes and translates your sermons as they're preached. Listeners receive the translated sermon through FM headsets or on their phones — no app download required.

What is the Unity Edge?

The Unity Edge is a dedicated hardware device about the size of a paperback book. It sits next to your sound mixer, connects with a single audio cable, and runs all the AI processing locally. It handles speech-to-text transcription, language translation, and text-to-speech audio generation — all without needing a laptop, internet connection, or anyone operating it.

How does real-time sermon translation work?

The process has three steps: (1) The Unity Edge captures your sermon audio and converts speech to text using Whisper AI. (2) Neural translation models convert the text into the target language. (3) The translated content is delivered to listeners via FM headsets (as spoken audio) or phones (as scrolling text). The entire process happens in under 2 seconds.

Do congregants need to download an app?

No. Phone access works through a web page — listeners scan a QR code and the translated sermon appears in their browser. No app store, no account creation, no downloads. Works on any phone with a web browser.

Hardware & Installation

How long does initial setup take?

About 15 minutes. Connect one audio cable from your mixer to the Unity Edge, plug in the power, and place QR code cards in the pews. The device ships pre-configured — there's no software to install or settings to configure.

Does someone need to operate it each Sunday?

No. That's the entire point. The Unity Edge turns on automatically, detects audio, and starts transcribing and translating. Your sound booth volunteers don't need to touch it, launch anything, or even know it's there. Set it up once and it works every service.

Does it require a laptop in the sound booth?

No. The Unity Edge is a dedicated device that handles all processing. No laptop, no Windows updates, no login screens, no "who has the password" problems. It's purpose-built for this one job.

What sound systems does it work with?

The Unity Edge connects to any sound system that has an auxiliary output, monitor send, or direct out. If your mixer can send audio to a recorder or a livestream, it can send audio to the Unity Edge. We include the right cables and adapters for your specific setup.

Do we need to buy the hardware?

No. The Unity Edge is leased as part of your monthly subscription. It ships pre-configured and ready to use. If you ever cancel, just ship it back. There's no large upfront hardware purchase.

How It Works Under the Hood

Does it need internet to work?

The core transcription and translation runs locally on the device — no internet required. FM headset delivery works completely offline. Internet is only needed for optional features like phone access (listeners need Wi-Fi or cell signal), sermon summaries, and cloud sync to the dashboard.

How accurate is the translation?

Modern AI transcription achieves 95%+ accuracy for clear audio. Translation quality depends on the language pair, but neural translation has improved dramatically. It's not perfect — no translation is, including human interpreters. But listeners consistently report they can follow the sermon far better than having no translation at all.

What languages are supported?

Currently: Spanish, French, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Russian, and German. New languages are added regularly based on community needs and are delivered through over-the-air updates to the device.

What's the delay between the pastor speaking and the translation?

Under 2 seconds for text delivery. Audio (text-to-speech) adds a small additional delay for the speech synthesis. In practice, listeners experience it like a simultaneous interpretation — close enough to follow along with the live service.

Is our sermon data private?

Yes. Core transcription and translation happen entirely on the Unity Edge device — your sermon audio is never sent to external servers for processing. Optional cloud features (like dashboard access and sermon summaries) are encrypted in transit and at rest.

Does translation only work from English to other languages?

No — UnityVerse works with any source language. If your pastor preaches in Spanish, the system transcribes Spanish and translates to English, or to any other supported language. Ukrainian to Spanish, Korean to English, Portuguese to French — any supported language pair works. The Unity Edge detects the spoken language automatically, so there's nothing to configure when switching preachers or languages.

FM Headsets & Phone Access

How do FM headsets work?

The Unity Edge includes a small FM transmitter that broadcasts the translated audio on a specific frequency. Listeners wear a small FM receiver headset (like a pocket radio with an earpiece). They tune to the right channel and hear the sermon in their language. No Wi-Fi, no phone, no battery concerns beyond the headset itself.

Should we use headsets, phone access, or both?

We recommend both. Keep FM headsets at the welcome table for listeners who prefer screen-free worship (especially older congregants). Place QR code cards in the pews for phone users. Over time, your congregation will settle into their preferences.

Can it help the hard of hearing?

Absolutely. FM headsets provide amplified audio directly to the ear — similar to existing assistive listening systems. Phone access provides real-time captions, which function as live closed captioning for the sermon. Both serve the hearing-impaired community, in any language.

After the Sermon

What happens to the transcript after the service?

Every sermon is automatically saved as a searchable transcript in the original language and all translated languages. You can access transcripts through the UnityVerse dashboard, download them as PDFs, share sermon summaries, or publish them to your church website.

How does sermon transcription help with Google and SEO?

Search engines can't listen to audio or watch video. If your sermons only exist as YouTube recordings, Google has no idea what your pastor said. Transcribed sermons become searchable text on your website — meaning when someone searches for a topic your pastor preached about, your church can show up in results. Multilingual transcripts multiply this effect by making your content discoverable in other languages. Read more about why this matters.

What are sermon summaries?

After each service, AI generates a concise summary of the sermon — key points, scripture references, and takeaways. These can be shared with your congregation via email, posted on your website, or used for Bible study groups. Summaries are available in all supported languages.

Cost & Support

How much does it cost?

$149/month. Everything is included: the Unity Edge hardware (leased), all languages, FM transmitter, phone access, sermon summaries, transcripts, dashboard access, and email support with an onboarding call. No per-language fees, no hidden costs. See full pricing details.

Is there a contract?

No contracts. Month-to-month billing. 30-day money-back guarantee. If it's not right for your church, cancel anytime and ship the device back.

What about multi-campus churches?

We offer custom pricing for multi-campus churches. Each campus gets its own Unity Edge device, and all data flows into a single dashboard so leadership can see sermon content across all locations. Contact us for a quote.
