Listen to Sermon
The speaker uses Jonah’s flight to Tarshish to illustrate how believers often disobey God regarding specific convictions, labeling it 'small' or 'seasonal.' True discipleship requires immediate obedience to God's promptings, regardless of size, recognizing that delayed obedience remains disobedience. Repentance involves laying aside personal pride and submitting wholly to God's authority.

All right. Everybody make sure your batteries are good.

Um and it kind of pertains to tonight, but let me do it here. Um if you listen to the the uh the prophet Theo Vaughn, he's not a prophet, I'm just kidding. But if you ever listen to him, he shared something a couple of weeks ago. And uh I really think that um it's either something somebody needs to hear tonight, but we all need to hear it. But uh we're very familiar with in John chapter five, um, where it talks about the pull of Bethesda, and there's a man there. And it says, um, when Jesus noticed him noticed him lying there, and that he had been in that condition a long time, he said to him, Do you want to get well? Most of the time when I've read this story, I've read right over that part. Because I was like, Well, of course he wants to get well, right? But my question tonight is, Do you want to get well? I know that there's places in my life where I struggled. And maybe I didn't want to get fully well because I knew what that would mean. And that's what Philo shared in this whole thing. Is that there may be something that you constantly do in your life, a sin or uh a habit or whatever, there's something going on in your life. And Jesus was saying, Hey, do you want to get well? And maybe you're not sure if you do. And so I want to tell you tonight that this is a place of healing. This is a place where you can get well. And if you decide to lay those things over to God and give those things to Him. This is a place to do that. Tonight in this room, there's gonna be a mealing bench over there. We're gonna be doing a lesson, of course, but um uh third song. But if you need to battle, if you need to seek out a meter, uh whatever you need to do, uh this is a great time to do that. This is our house of worship. This is the purpose of praise. Where we deal with trials, where we proclaim your name. This is a house. They are saying that so he's a soil sleeping.

So come alive. Come on right in the name of Jesus. Come on, in the name of the chinus, please with me every face, so between our chin to fish, machine to us, nearly green. This was erection. Yeah. Come alive in the baby by Jesus. Come alive in the baby by Jesus. I still be moving. I still don't have a video. It's my eyes on hair. It's been a baby to bed. First my eyes on gay I see now they are too good.

In the name of Jesus, the master will bring our sooner and Hosea. If you've read those prophet minor prophet books, Jonah was around the same time they were around. Jonah was a prophet to an Israel, one of Israel's kings who basically for 40 years did evil in the sight of the Lord. In 2 Kings, actually accounts for that particular king, even though he was evil, he went and took back some of the border country of Israel back according to the prophecy of Jonah. So Jonah was Jonah wasn't just this wild character out in the middle of nowhere that had this story about him being a prophet and told to go to Nineveh. He was a prophet with contemporaries. We have on the record a prophecy of his coming to pass. This was a godly man in an ungodly environment. Okay. And Jonah is faced with a moment. It says in verse 1 of chapter 1 of Jonah. Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah. The word of the Lord came to Jonah. And Jonah was obviously, again, go with me. He we have a uh a place in 2 Kings where we know that Jonah heard from the Lord, prophesied, and the thing that Jonah prophesied came to pass. So Jonah's not a scrub. Like he knows he knows how to hear from God. He knows what it's like to understand what God is saying. He knows how to prophesy. This isn't Like a one-off thing, right? This isn't like all of a sudden Jonah's out in the middle of nowhere and God speaks to him like God spoke to Moses, and he's like, Go do this big thing. Jonah was used to this way of doing things. And the word of the Lord came to Jonah. Let me read a little bit of this, and then um maybe I can give us a few things to think about. It says the word of the Lord came to Jonah, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me Possibly quoting Jonah 1:2–3. But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish, so he paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord. So the writer of this story is being very emphatic. Jonah heard from the God, he was told to go to Nineveh, which is in Assyria. And just if you were looking at a map, um Israel, where Jonah was, Nineveh would be um east of Israel. Landlocked. Okay. But Tarshish is west. He gets on a boat and he is going to sail in the opposite direction of where God's telling him to go. Okay? So just so you can get kind of a your your geographical bearings here, it wasn't like Tarshish was here and Nineveh was here. And it was close, but he was just like, nah, I'm just going to take an alternate. But he said, I'm going to go the exact opposite of where God said. Okay. But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship Possibly quoting Jonah 1:4 threatened to break up. The Lord, not the enemy. For all my real charismatic folks in here who think God doesn't intervene when you disobey. God will at times hurl a tempest your way. You said, Well, why would God do that? To get you to obey. Because He loves you that much. He will throw something your way. Dare I use these words in the Christian church in America in 2026 to pain you. The right way. Paul said it this way: The Lord gave me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me. That's Possibly quoting 2 Corinthians 12:7 not a that's not a silent tea like buffet, it's buffet. What does buffet mean? It means to conform you to what you're supposed to do. So sometimes God pokes you and hurts you to get you to go the way. You should go. And I know for many of us who claim this idea of God that God loves you so much, He's gonna just let you do whatever you want to do because He's this yes parent. No, he's not, He's not like us. If my boo boo baby child makes enough racket, we're gonna do what boo boo baby child wants to do. Shut up, baby boo boo child, okay? But God's not a negligent father. If you're doing the opposite, if you're headed to Tarsish, the exact opposite of Nineveh, and you belong to him, well, he's gonna hurl a tempest. And I actually think this is, and we use words like this, I hope it doesn't do anything to you and just use this word. I think it's a prophetic word to the church that the disasters you face, the issues you're in, the hard things you're experiencing are not a result of happenstance or the enemy. It's God's tempest to get you to obey. Glenn says it like this: sometimes your misery is only as long-lasting as your hesitancy. Sometimes the storm will stop as soon as you surrender. Sometimes the hard thing isn't somebody else making your life a living you know what. It's you making your life a living you know what. And just as soon, I remember the old saying was as soon as you point your finger forward, you've got three more sticking back at you. Right? Sometimes our disobedience, you can label it whatever you want. You don't feel like God said, you don't have a calling on your life like that. You don't X, Y, Z, you don't this, that, and the other. I've used them all. I know what they are. It's just not it, that's just not my season. Y'all, we get real Christian on God real fast. God, this just really isn't, I'm just in a different season right now. No, no, you're in a disobedience season, is what you're in. And we can you can label it whatever you want, but if the tempest is being hurled on you, are you headed to Tarshith? Are you going the opposite way of what God says? So listen to what happens. I'm just gonna read a little bit more of this story. I'm not gonna go through the whole thing. He hurled a great wind, and the mariners were afraid. These are people who are used to being on the sea, and they each cried out to their God. They hurled the cargo into the ocean, hoping to lighten the ship, but Jonah had gone down in the inner part of the ship and had laid down and was asleep Possibly quoting Jonah 1:5. There's only one other person that I know of in scripture that fell asleep during a storm on a boat. This is so wild to me. And his name is Jesus. I think he was asleep because in his perfect obedience he was fine. But Jonah had somehow in his mind gotten to a point where he was so good with his disobedience that he was able to take a nap during a tempest. Jesus could because he was perfectly obedient to the Father. But Jonah was so disobedient, so deceived about where he was at, he was able to take a nap in a tempest that the mariners who were used to be at sea Charles were scared. They're crying out to their God, Moses, Charles, we're gonna die. And Jonah's down there doing. You know, I always think about pirates of the Caribbean where in the hammocks. I just see Jonah in his hammock down there. Maybe he's got a bottle of rum. I don't know. But you know, he's chilling in his disobedience. It ends up, the captain comes to him and says, What do you mean? That's what my translation says, you sleeper. In other words, he's going, How in the world are you asleep right now? Arise and call out to your God. Perhaps the God will give you a thought to us that we might not perish. In other words, we've been calling out, we've been slinging stuff over the side while you've been snoozing. Why don't you give it a shot? Because otherwise we are all going to die. Must have been a pretty bad deal. Jonah does not say anything, he just moseys on up to the deck. And they said to one another, Come, let us cast lots, which is a way of basically rolling dice to come to some kind of decision, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah Possibly quoting Jonah 1:7. You know, there's actually a proverb that talks about this: that the hand casts a lot, but God determines what it means. So good, because again, at the end of the day, God knows and God's in control, God's at work. And so what does he do? He reveals what was already known to Jonah, but not to these unbeknowing. Um mariners is that it was on Jonah. And they say, Tell us what's going on. What's your occupation? Where do you come from? What's your country? Of what people are you Possibly quoting Jonah 1:8–9? And he said, I'm a Hebrew and I fear the Lord. Not a lot. I want you to hear the American Christian in you right now. I I I one time we did this video project, this was years ago, all right. Our pastor was doing this series called Who is God? And he sent me out with another buddy of mine to record straight-up reactions like old school camcorder, like holding in your hand. And we were going into like Foodland parking lot, Lowe's parking lot, and say, hey, excuse me, do you have a second? Total strangers. Hey, can I ask you a question? Sure. Who is God? Now, we got some mixed bag on the reaction. Some people were like, Why would you put me on the spot like that? I don't want to answer this question now. I thought you were gonna ask me something else, and they would leave. But there would be people that would say the first thing that would come out of their mouth would be, This is what I do. This is what I do, this is what I do. They would name all of these things about it's like they got, it was almost like they were shocked. Like they were like, Oh, let me tell of all this stuff that proves that I know who God is. I go to church every Sunday. I read my Bible some and I do this and I do that and named all these things. But no one in those types of line of question ever said who God was. They only said what they did for the God they thought they knew. And here's Jonah. Who are you? Where do you come from? Like, what's your occupation? I'm a Hebrew. I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea in dry land Possibly quoting Jonah 1:9–10. And the men were exceedingly afraid and said to him, What is this that you have done? You need people in your life. Like these guys. You really do. Because just a second, you're gonna see how faithful these guys are to fear God more than Jonah did. You need people who fear God more than they fear losing your friendship. You need people in your life that fear God more than you turning your back to them in bed if you're married to them. You need people that that that you they're so more fearful of what God thinks and what God wants that they would be willing to risk you being mad, upset, or not want to speak to you anymore because they care about what God wants more than they care about what you think. And if you're gonna genuinely follow God, you're gonna disappoint some people. Jesus certainly did. For the men knew that they were fleeing, that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord. Listen to this. Because he told them Possibly quoting Jonah 1:10. It's amazing what a fresh reading of this story really will do for you. He said, Yeah, yeah, I need a one-way ticket to Tarshus. I am running from God. This is what makes them so great. Then they said to him, What shall we do to you that the sea may quiet down for us? Because here's a good rule: your disobedience affects more than just you. If you're a dad in here and a husband, your disobedience affects your family. Moms, wives, your disobedience affects your family. You disobey God, there are other people around you going, what do we need to do to make this right? And they can't fix it, but they sure could be a great group of people to call it out like these guys do. For the sea grew more and more tempest. Tempest. Oh my God, that's an $8 word. Say it one more time. Tempestuous. Wow. I skipped over that one in my study. Yeah, that's a I might even say that's an $8.50 word. But he said to them, Listen, he said to them, Pick me up and hurl me into this sea. Then the sea will quiet down for you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you. Nevertheless, the men rode hard to get back on dry land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more Possibly quoting Jonah 1:13–16, that $8.50 word against them. Therefore they called out to the Lord, O Lord, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood. For you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you. So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows. And then you get into verse 17, right before chapter 2, and the Lord appointed. He sent a tempest, and he appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days. And three nights Possibly quoting Jonah 1:17.

So I I just a couple of things. And then what I'd like to do is uh as the worship team comes back up here and we go into this time of song, I I don't we don't have to have a great display, but this needs to be a great time. If this if this is really already getting at your heart, like I know it has been for me and reading this and studying this, it's like, oh God, show me where I have not been faithful to obey you. We were on a uh on a call the other day and and and um I I referenced Glenn Schaefer a lot. Uh number one, because he's a spiritual father of this place, but number two, I've I've not met many people willing for God to tell them things that they know they might not want to hear. It's a it's something you've got to develop into. Because if you're real sensitive and you you get your feelings hurt a lot, asking God questions like that hurts. You can't ask God, where have I not been faithful? And God go, I'm not going to tell you. He'll answer that kind of prayer. He said, one of the most forming things for him on this call the other day, he said, is when I'm with God, at certain points, I'll just say, God, show me where I have not been faithful. Show me where I've not been faithful. And if you have found, even this week or last week, or over the last year, or there's places where you've gone the opposite direction. You know that God has told you something. You know, listen, guys, I mean, I'm talking about from the stuff you listen to to the things you watch to the things that come out of your mouth. Whatever God has been saying, obey, and you have not, this is a great time to repent. Say, God, you know, I'm bringing this to you. I don't even know how to stop heading that that way. I don't, I don't maybe there's some of that in you. Eugene Peterson, he said this about Tarshus. He said, Tarsus, in Tarsus, we can have a religious career. Without having to deal with God. In other words, we can have the life of a Christian without the substance of it. The substance of Christianity is obedience. It is not how long you pray, it is not how high you lift your hands during these songs. It is not how much you weep when you sin. It's do you obey God? Do you do what God asks you to do, even when they're not in the script?

Years ago, as far as a work of obedience, I just want to share this one and then I'll finish up here. Is what? That would be great. Thank you so much. There was a show I used to watch all the time. It's called the Big Bang Theory. Some of y'all might really like that show. And I've probably shared this story before because it was one of those times where I felt like this story. I felt like God told me I couldn't watch that show anymore. And I want to tell you something real quick about the church today. The church in America, I think we would get a letter from Jesus. If you read the first of Revelation, in the first chapters of Revelation, Jesus has letters sent to the churches. And they range from all these different kinds of things. But I've honestly never really thought about this until I started studying Jonah. Jonah was a prophet. In the reign of a king for 40 years who did evil in the sight of the Lord. I feel like in our time we have more Christians justifying their disobedience for things that are so small, it makes me wonder: how in the world are we going to obey God with big stuff? So I had this show, and this is actually, let me not qualify any of this. Crystal's in here, so I can't qualify any of what I'm about to say. Or she'll be like, you said you're sorry. No. Whatever it says to you, let it say to you. I'm not trying to condemn, but I want you to hear me. And watching this show, The Big Bang Theory, I loved this show. I had a poster of Sheldon that said Bazinga on it in my office. I love this show. It was brilliantly written. They the actually going behind the scenes, how much science these guys actually had to know as actors to speak about quantum physics and all these different things. It was mind-boggling, these actors, what they were doing. And then one of the episodes, Penny, the attractive girl on the show, sleeps with a guy. And let me not even use that term because sleeps with is a A way of undercutting the seriousness of it. Committed adultery and fornicated with or fornicated with somebody. That's a biblical term. Okay. Had sex outside of marriage. And I remember, I remember this clear as day because we were living in the parsonage, right? The parsonage, the church house. I'm sitting there on our couch, we're watching this show, and the audience, she comes out of the bedroom because she's trying to leave, because she feels ashamed that she she got drunk and fornicated with this stranger. And she comes out barely dressed, and the um one of the guys sees her and she's embarrassed. And the audience, I remember I could see it just like it was yesterday. The audience begins to erupt in laughter. I'm talking about y'all. It could have been that the Holy Spirit was sitting beside me on the couch like an awkward friend and said, They're celebrating the breaking of my commandments. They're laughing at something that if you did it, you wouldn't laugh. If you knew somebody, if somebody came to you today and said, Oh, you will not believe. I cheated on my spouse, or I did this thing. You would, there wouldn't be an audio track of an audience laughing. There would be a weeping, there would be a mourning. It was we transgressed the law of God. You wouldn't laugh at that. Why is it okay for you to laugh on this couch? Guys, I was cut. Remember? I don't remember what season we were in, but we weren't far enough in to where we I was like, there was so much more show to watch. There is nowhere that I have found, and I've read through the Bible many times, that says, Thou shalt not watch the Big Bang Theory. So it's not in the script, but the prophetic promise of the Messiah is that when Christ comes, that when you get redeemed, God has the ability to inscribe his law on your heart. The word came to Jonah. Well, the word came to me sitting on that couch. And I'm not a y'all know me, I'm not a holy roller. I'm not some, we don't need to, we don't need to, we need to judge an all white and watch around and I don't know. I'm just not like that. I probably need a lot more work of holiness in my life, to be honest. So I knew that wasn't me just trying to look some kind of way because that's what I wanted. I love that show. They say, okay, that's a very simple thing. Exactly. If you don't love God in the little things, I would think it would be very hard to love God in the big things. How do you make such great sacrifices if you don't obey in the little places? How does one decide that I'm going to do what God says in a manner or a manner that doesn't even seem like that big of a deal? I want to speak that to so many of you who you've said it's really not that big of a deal. This is what I'd ask you. If you were the young rich ruler and Jesus was standing before you and he says, There's one thing you lack, it's that thing that you're saying is not that big of a deal. Let me tell you what Jesus' promise is. If you obey my commands, you will abide in my love. Do you know the people that are feel the most unloved by God are typically the most disobedient? It's not a depression problem. It's not an anxiety problem. It's a tempest on your soul, usually because there's an area of disobedience. And that's hard to hear. But here's what I'm telling you: sometimes your misery is only as long as your hesitancy. If you're unwilling to obey God over the thing that you say is so little, I would use your own logic against you. If it's so little, why not just obey? Why not just do what God says? Jonah ends up in the belly of this fish. I thought, man, you know, I'm thinking about my own life. How many times I've, can I say blatantly disobeyed God? I knew God said, Hey, you shouldn't do that, you shouldn't shouldn't do that, and I did it anyway, or you need to do this, didn't do it. To the one who knows to do right and doesn't do it, to him it is sin Possibly quoting James 4:17. There are many of you in here, you in here, you have abstained from a great deal of things. You don't do the wrong things, but in the same hand, you don't do the right things either. You may not be on a boat to Tarshish. But that doesn't mean you're headed to Nineveh. To stay in Israel would have been just as much of a disobedience as getting on the boat in Jampa. Don't use your religious service to God as a cover for your disobedience. I don't live, I'm talking to me too. Don't use your reading. Don't use your praying. Don't use like I lift my hands to God. I pray all the time. All of those are justifications. If it's something God has called you to obey, you obey. To love God, to trust God, and to obey God. Now, again, I'm not expecting all of us to get up and wail and weep. Caitlin was waiting for me to say apathy a bunch of times tonight. So let me fulfill her wish real quick. The church, I think it's been pretty clear that the church has been in a sense as a whole, apathetic. I think there's something there. I think there's a strong man of an apathetic nature that relies on what I've always done as a justification for not doing the new thing God's writing, not on the script, but in the heart. Some of you have some things you really need to do. You don't need to delay. Many of you need to hear this word. Delayed obedience is still disobedience. Don't put off one more day. Why would you let the tempest grow stronger? By waiting another day. Obey the Lord. And listen, if you need to, find some people who will help get your butt over the railing into the water. You say, Oh, obey God, everything will be all right. A lot of times you obey God and you got to spend some time in the belly of the fish. That's why we don't obey. It's uncomfortable to do what God asks us to do. Because the next day somebody said, Did you watch Big Bang Theory? And I had to be the person that said, you know, God won't let me watch that anymore. Why? It's just a TV show. Why? It's not that big of a deal. Many of you in this room, you use collective obedience as your scapegoat. And just because someone else around you isn't called to it doesn't mean it's not your call. You obey what God told you, and you know what God's been been doing in your heart. Amen? Because He'll say stuff to you that's just wild, and you'll be checking with somebody. Have you ever experienced this? And they'll be like, no, and then you're like, I guess it must not have been. No, no, it's God. It's God. Go read some of the stuff he made some of the prophets do. It's weird. He didn't ask everybody to do it, he's asking you to do it. Where do you need to obey?

So let's go into this last song. We would, if you need, I think what Cam said as we opened up, if you need a leader, you need a mariner to help you get you over the railing, find somebody. Sometimes that's what we do need. We need friends that will help us obey. I'm totally for that. I don't need an accountability proper. I just need somebody who's willing to say, hey, you know that's not right. If you see something I'm doing, if you see something I'm saying, you know that's not right. Come on, help me get off the railing, right? Help me. You may need to find somebody, but I think what more than anything this time is for is for these are long grown places of disobedience. They've been there for a minute. You have, you have, you've you've gotten drowsy, you've fallen asleep in the boat. And God has thrown tempests at you, and you've labeled them all kinds of things, and God's trying to get your attention. He's trying to get you in the corner of the ring. He's trying to get you in the ropes. He's trying to get you in the belly of the fish. Why? Because Nineveh needs you. And it's really hard for, and I say it's hard, but it's very difficult to see the kingdom of God expand with disobedient children. It's just hard. How are we going to see our families change? Some of you want to see generational curses broke off your family. How are you going to do that? You can't do it through a disobedient heart. You know, some of you want to deeper prayer life. How are you going to do that by disobeying God? Some of you want to be people of the word. And God's asked you for things. I think it's we're the kind of church you can just say this. Sometimes we just don't do the things that God has glaringly, made glaringly apparent, He's asked us to do. So this is the time not to go, I promise, I promise. Just to say, God, I need help here. Where you've asked me to obey, it's like I need to get thrown over the railing here. If you're tired of the tempest, if you're tired of walking in disobedience, I think that's what this time is for. Okay? So if you're able, you can stand. We're gonna sing this last song and just take a second, right? We're we're gonna linger here for just a moment. We're right at about an hour and a half. I wanted it to keep close to that, but I I want you to if if you need to find a spot, um, there are even some uh kneeling bench over here uh if you need it or you want to turn around in your seat, but make a space. Make a space if you've been disobedient, if there's a disobedience in your heart, just repent, man. Just Just spend that time with God. Just take a second as we go into this song. Okay.

I want to pray for us, and then uh the team's gonna lead us in a song. Holy Spirit, I ask that you would stir this word in all of our hearts that we might be those who are obedient. If there's a mark on this church, God, I ask that in the years to come, you have been obedient, whether in the scripture or Father, I pray that the would be sweet in this place. Let us not be eager to sacrifice if we have not been. In the story of Cain and Abel, the fat, his animals, Cain brought and God and he accepted Abel's Cain's. And he told Cain, this is what he said, if you do right, will you not be accepted? Father, I pray that word over your people. It's not about performance. The obedience of Christ has assured us of our place with the Lord. But Father, I'm asking for a righteousness that comes from righteousness. I'm asking for an obedience that comes from your obedience. I'm asking for a strength that comes from your strength. I'm asking for a word of truth that comes from you. Empower us and embolden us to listen to the sweet voice of Christ in these moments as we repent, as we spend time before you. It's in Jesus' name we pray.

Amen. And I bring my joy and clade your feet. I give you my love, my everything. Not who'd care how much it cost the ski that I offer is the best I can bring. And this is my altar. Here's where I give you every feet. Here's where I sit at your feet. This is my altar. My soul come dwell in me the temple that you chose. You have made my heart. So here at the altar, I lay in And this is my water. Here's where I see new everything. This is my altar. This is my heart single. Here's where I gave you everything. His wife and sin of me. We do not all things send. This sins of What I have been lost. Here's where we are waiting, the will put us free for feeling every house and every fear where he has no place here. All anxiety brings up the answer in your presence now. Casting down every time while I have belongs to you from each fabric It has no place to I think I think that's a little eyes and boy. I'm supposed to love how to feel.

Jesus Can I just say one thing real quick? So we continue in this moment. We serve a holy God, and there's nothing too big that He can't hear from your voice. I've shared my story with a lot of people in this room, and I've said this many times, but I've said some hard things to God. I've said some things to God that I thought I would never say. Out of disobedience. Man, I went to Tarsus and I went past that, I went like out there. I stayed on the boat way too long. And when you sing this song, and we say, We fall down, we lay our crowns. Maybe we need to say we fall down and we just lay it all out there for you, God. Because there's nothing too big. There's nothing that he's not gonna be surprised. I promise. He's gonna go, Yep. Yep. Yeah, I remember that part. I know I know where you were. I remember when you did that. When you went there, when I told you to go here. I remember when I told you to stay and you went. I remember when you went and told you to stay. So we're gonna sing this just one more round. And I just want you to think about it that way. Maybe you just need to fall down and lay your crown, whatever that is, down. Say, Lord. I can't handle this anymore because let me tell you this, you can't handle it. You can't handle it. I can't handle it. So let's zoom this together. We fall down. We lay our crown at the field of dreams and the great lady's soul is what seeming heaven lumber and seen me to crowd. Yes, we cry crystal just in my course to him and cry Hey man.

Well I just um if you'll take a seat for just a second. Um, I'm about to pray over um us just to close out and I'm gonna pray. Thank God for the food. We'll grab our kiddos. We have uh food for you. You can kind of come over here and hang out the tables. If you want to bring it back here, we got the tables out though, so we could eat together.

Um, but before uh we do that, I just want to kind of encourage a couple of people. Some people were on my mind and just had a couple of words to give. I'd even say, Trace, if you had anything, you do, okay. Um, just as an opportunity, uh the Sunday night church experience for us is kind of an opportunity to be a little bit more laid back. Uh, we do believe God speaks. Well, again, we use this term prophetically. What we mean is God will put a word, we believe, many times in people's hearts for other people. Sometimes those are words of encouragement, sometimes they're words of correction, sometimes they're words of future things, what you can expect God to do, or maybe things that will happen in your life. And uh every once in a while these things happen. We don't come in here going, God, you better speak prophetically. We just keep ourselves open to things like that. And this is what I would encourage you to as well while we do this Sunday Night Church stuff, is because we believe that that happens a lot. A lot more than just in services. But coming out of the charismatic stream, this particular time would be where the prophet or the pastor or the teacher really, you know, is a showstopper and has all this prophetic power. And we we're trying really hard to debunk the weird stuff of the charismatic stream so that we can embrace all that's in the scripture that's good and that edifies and builds a church. Okay. Uh so if it's not weird, I think people accept it. I think it's when people are weird that people are like, nope, I don't want that. And I think the prophetic uh ministry of the church should be. Full, but because people are weird, uh, they've made the prophetic weird, okay?

You had something, Trace. Yeah, they're short, sweet to the point, but uh Joy, uh the Lord says your obedience will will require you to walk alone, but do not fear, for I am with you. Uh and then Tim, what you lack, I have an abundance. You know why what I ask of you, and now is the time. You may say, I can't because I am not strong. But in your weakness is where I will display my strength. Amen. Um, Jordan. Jordan loves her name being said out loud in a microphone. Your assurance for all things should be kept in Christ. Your assurance for all things should be kept in Christ. If he died, And was raised to life. All power belongs to him. That's where your assurance comes from. You don't have to spend time wondering where things will get sure up. The cross is your assurance. His resurrection is that check mark in the box. Amen.

I do not know your name. What's Krista? I'm sorry, okay. Yeah, she's like, I'm never coming back here again. Chrissa, I just saw your head. I was back there praying. I saw your head down. And the Lord said, I'm going to lift your head. Whatever your head is down about, whatever sorrow you carry, he's in the process of lifting your head. Circumstantially, you may still have a reason to be down. But God says, I am the lifter of your head. And he says, Look to the heels. You can't look at a hill when your head's down. Look to the hills. This is where your help comes from. Amen. Amen.

Well, I'm going to pray for us. Um, let these gifts stir the church. If you find yourself drawn to encourage somebody, don't wait, encourage. If you have a word for somebody, don't wait, give it. If you feel like I should pray for that person, pray. If you have faith, use that gift of faith. All as apportioned to you as God wills. Okay? It's just that easy. It doesn't have to be weird. Do this as often as you can because you are a minister of Christ. Christ has called you to be a minister, amen.

So as we close up, I just want to pray to kind of solidify this. It's so good to be together. It's so good to hear the word of God together. It's so good to be encouraged. Amen. And so uh let's thank God for this food and uh take just a second and pray, and then we'll dismiss and we'll chow down. Amen. Let's do that. Father, thank you for this time together. Sweet moments of worship. Thank you for a word, although hard, shaping our soul. That we might be a church that you can trust to do anything you ask. Man, what a designation that would be. The Father trusting us to do whatever he asks, whatever he wills. Lord, we thank you that that's the work you're doing us, that we be a people of prayer, a people of the word, people full of your spirit, ready to give of ourselves to the body of Christ and beyond at any given moment. Just as you please. We thank you for this food, and we ask that as we're eating, Father, there's joy, there's contentment, there's love, there's laughter, there's all the things that make being a part of the body of Christ so sweet. We ask it in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. You're dismissed. If you've got kids over in kids' rooms, you can go retrieve them. It's child time. I've been instructed to tell you the line for food will be on the other side of the what is that word? Partition. That's the word I I said that. On the other side of the partition. Please make your way to the partition.
